FAQs

Also known as shinrin-yoku, Nature Therapy and Eco-Therapy…all are essentially the same thing, derived from the same principals and research.
Shinrin- Yoku or Forest Bathing emerged in the 1980s when the Japanese government noticed an increase in illnesses in their population as the culture was shifting towards a more tech centered world. Long work hours spent in cubicles staring at computer screens in crowded cities was taking a toll. They set out to study the benefits of returning to nature as a way to improve health.
Researchers discovered that plants, especially trees, released essential chemicals called phytoncides that serve as a natural defense against fungus and bacteria. When humans breathe in and absorb these phytoncides through the skin while “bathing” or immersing ourselves in the forest, we also benefit.
The findings showed improved immunity, lower blood pressure, lower stress, better sleep, and improved mental health.
I am certified as a Forest Therapy guide. Forest Therapy expands on the 40 plus years of research in Shinrin - Yoku by offering a slightly different approach. Instead of a goal oriented, clinical approach, Forest Therapy seeks to explore a relationship with nature using our senses through open invitations from a certified guide. These sensory experiences open new pathways for improved personal health, improved human relationships, and deeper connection with the natural world.
